… we live in a completely absurd world where the morality and decency humanity claims to stand for is perverted at every turn by those who twist and manipulate the cogs on this lonely planet.
On the one hand, our political institutions talk about democracy and freedom, while on the other they divide and conquer.
On the one hand, our religious institutions talk about virtue and compassion, while on the other they degrade and pervert and engender sectarianism.
On the one hand, our legal institutions talk about truth and justice, while on the other they operate via deception and favouritism to the rich and powerful.
On the one hand, our educational institutions talk about knowledge and understanding, while on the other they indoctrinate, and stifle critical thinking and creativity.
There are many responses to this, ranging from near-catatonic apathy to compliant supplication to conspiratorial complicity to defiant rebellion to – well … the gamut is covered, perhaps, inevitably, endlessly.
But what is the “correct” response?
Are we – as recent history certainly indicates – destined to perpetuate this endless dance of progress and destruction, tirelessly creating and destroying in equal measure, in order to maintain this macabre balance?
Will we descend to the depths of depravity of which we’ve demonstrated ourselves most capable, or transcend to glorious heights unforeseen, where true potential unfolds and harmony reigns?
Don’t ask me, I’m just some bloke on the internet.
