As with the incidents of slave rebellion in the past, so too today convenient and simplistic scapegoats are found to explain away the violence – uncomfortable truths are quickly swept under the rug as people are encouraged to “move on” without analyzing the conditions which truly motivated the attacks. Video games are blamed instead of the culture of conformity which pervades high schools, where the jocks and bullies act with impunity from the school administration and their victims have nowhere to turn to. When all else fails, “evil” plain and simple is trotted out, that vague, abstract explanation commonly applied to America’s international “enemies”.
